I sell a lot of greeting cards and photo prints on Etsy and every time I try to add variations to my ads, I totally forget how to do it. Etsy’s system isn’t all that intuitive, so I figured I’d write this post as a reminder for myself as well as a helpful tool for anyone else who’s interested.
Okay, so I’ve already logged into my Etsy account and clicked on the Listings link in the Shop Manager. I’ll click the Add a Listing button up on the top right and then I’ll fill in all the relevant ad information. When I get down to the Variations section, I’ll click the Add Variations button. This button isn’t active unless the ad category is chosen first.
I usually add two different types of variations. For the greeting cards that I sell, I add what I title as Bulk Discount. So, the name of the variation for this one is Bulk Discount. After I name the variation, I’ll check off the boxes that say Prices vary for each bulk discount and Quantities vary for each bulk discount. Then, I’ll name the options. In my case, I sell one card for $3 and discount them as the quantities rise. So for the first option, I’ll fill in 1 Card and Envelope and then continue on with Set of 2, Set of 4 and finally, Set of 6.
After I click on the OK button, the popup window that I was just working in will close and some empty fields for price and quantity will be available for me. I’ll fill those fields in with the relevant information and then continue on with my ad.
For the photo prints that I sell, I follow the same instructions as above. The only changes are that I don’t name this variation Bulk Discount; I rather name it Options. Then, I only check the Prices vary for each options box and for the options to the right, I add Print Only and Print with White Mat. Then I click OK and fill in the price fields that appear for this variation. After all that, I continue on placing my ad.
I hope this helps someone out there who’s going crazy over trying to figure out how to add variations to an Etsy ad. If you have any other advice to offer, please share down below. Thanks!
